Who wants strong digestion, a healthy immune system & reduced or minimal inflammation?
Me please! What about you?
Did you know that the juice of half a lemon can help you with all that and more?
Why? Lemons, a citrus fruit, are an “excellent source of vitamin C”[i] and “one of the most important antioxidants in nature. A ¼ cup of lemon juice, 1 medium lemon, contains approximately 31% of the Daily Recommended Intake (DRI) of vitamin C[ii]. “The recommended daily value for vitamin C suggested by Health Canada is 60 mg”[vi].
Some benefits of consuming adequate amounts of vitamin C daily are:
- Minimize stress response
- Anti-cancer
- Antibiotic
- Immune boosting
- Anti-inflammatory
- Healthy digestion
Why daily? Vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin so it is not stored by the body and needs to be consumed daily.
“During times of chemical, emotional, psychological and physiological stress, the urinary excretion of vitamin C is increased”[v]. So please remember that during times of stress more vitamin C needs to be consumed daily for optimal health and happiness.
For an easy way to squeeze this powerhouse of a vitamin into your life try having a glass of water with the juice of 1/2 lemon upon waking & before each meal.
One word of caution… To protect your teeth enamel follow your lemon juice beverage with a few sips of water.
